Today marks the beginning of the Lenten season for many people with Ash Wednesday. Growing up, Lent was always about what you were going to give up – candy, soda, etc. Click on the link to the article below suggests some great ideas for actually giving and taking steps to enrich the lives of others. This is what I’ve been talking to my boys about this year. Whether you observe Lent or you do not, the idea of giving your time, kindness, or help to others is a great lesson. Kids can learn by your example, and in turn this will help build their self-esteem. You can get creative with it too. Create a family calendar where everyone writes down each good thing they do for another person, or talk about it over a family dinner each week. Maybe, the good feelings of doing something kind for others will end up lasting longer than 40 days:).
